Diary, 1708-1766.

The diary begins in June 1708, when May recorded accounts of his farm labor exchanges amongst the local residents. It continues, changing to line-a-day entries concerning May's daily activities and, in the latter portion of the diary, includes sporadic accounts and memoranda (one of them records the birth and two death dates of his ten children). Some of the entries were made in shorthand. Notes taken by Henry Russell Downe (1860-1934), Secretary of the Sons of the Revolution in the State of New York, concerning this shorthand are included in the collection. They were enclosed with a note written by Clarence Winthrop Bowen (1852-1935), dated 1917.
